About Compound Interest Calculator
The compound interest calculator works out how an investment or savings balance grows over time. Enter your starting principal, the annual interest rate, the number of years, and how often interest compounds, then read off the final value and the total interest earned.
The yearly breakdown shows the balance at the end of each year, which makes it easy to compare scenarios like monthly versus annual compounding. All math runs in your browser, so the figures you type are never sent anywhere and you can adjust inputs as many times as you like.
Frequently asked questions
- What does compounding frequency change?
- More frequent compounding adds interest to the balance sooner, so it earns interest on interest faster. Monthly compounding yields slightly more than annual at the same rate.
- Is this calculator the same as APR to APY?
- It is related. A nominal annual rate compounded more often produces a higher effective yield (APY), and the yearly breakdown reflects that effective growth.
- Does it account for regular contributions?
- This version calculates growth on a single lump-sum principal. It does not add recurring deposits during the term.
